Johnny Depp has spoken publicly for the first time about nearly losing his seven year old daughter to E.coli poisoning earlier this year.

Lily-Rose was admitted to hospital in March and Johnny - and his partner, Lily-Rose’s mum Vanessa Paradis - kept a constant vigil at her bedside as the child’s kidneys shut down in reaction to the illness.

Johnny has now told the Mirror: “It gave us a great scare.”

“What got us through this wasn’t the strength of Vanessa or me but our daughter and her incredible ability to make us feel OK even though she was very unwell. She was super-strong.”

“It was a very bumpy patch but she has come through it beautifully and unscathed and she is now as healthy as she always was. She is wonderful.”

“It was a reminder to us of how lucky we are to be able to breathe, walk, talk, think and surround ourselves with people we love.”

Filming of Johnny’s new film Sweeney Todd was suspended while Lily-Rose was in hospital and recovering but now Johnny has returned to work on the Tim Burton musical.
