Jessica Simpson and John MayerJoe Simpson might not have approved when daughter Jessica Simpson started dating John Mayer, but now he’s fully onboard with the couple’s relationship.

Speaking at the Entertainment Weekly party in New York this week, he said: “If Jessica is in love, I love the things she is in love with.”

“I want her to be happy. I’m always a fan of his. I love him; he’s got great music.”

“I think the beautiful thing is that [he and Jessica] don’t do the same thing. He’s a legend already. There is no competition. He’s a guitarist; that’s his thing. Jessica is a singer. She doesn’t play guitar, so there’s no competition.”

Jessica started dating John last summer but after initial over-hyping of their relationship, they’re thought to have split up in September before reunited in December.
