Lily Allen: I don’t regret Cheryl Cole comments but I’m done with this feud now
Lily Allen has said she doesn’t regret writing her self-doubt filled blog entry last week - and she’s not insulted by Cheryl Cole’s insinuations that Lily will never play an arena tour.
In the emotional post, Lily calls herself “fat and ugly” and when she pulled herself together again a few days later, she posted a second entry blaming Cheryl Cole’s earlier “chick with a dick” comment and criticised Cheryl’s musical ability and lifestyle. Cheryl then hit back with claims that Lily had previously insulted other members of Girls Aloud and the comment about Lily’s pop success.
Lily told the Mirror over the weekend: “In retrospect, maybe I shouldn’t have done [written the first post] but I’m actually quite glad I did. It’s good to be honest and say what’s on your mind.”
“I think the whole thing highlighted the issues and pressures of being a young woman in today’s society. That’s a positive thing for people to take away, not a negative thing.”
“I understand the pressure of when everyone is looking at you and sometimes you say things that you don’t actually mean. But Cheryl hasn’t apologised for those comments so she must have meant them…”
“I’m not going to take those kind of comments from someone like her. I’m just an artist trying to write and sing songs, and get on with my life, and she’s attacking me for the way I look! Thank you very much for that.”
“I wrote those things because I was really angry with what she’d said about me and I thought, ‘Who the hell do you think you are?’”
“All she does is sing songs that aren’t hers and do some sexy dance moves, and marry someone rich.”
“People forget that this time last year I hadn’t even released a song. I don’t know many people that are doing arena tours on their first album.”
“I played twice at Wembley Arena last year and I’m playing Wembley Stadium in a couple of months.”
“I’m over here in America where I’ve sold more than 500,000 albums. I wonder when Girls Aloud last came over here to promote an album? I don’t think anyone has even heard of them over here.”
She also denied making the comments about the other Girls Aloud: “I never called Sarah Harding vile and I never said anything about Cheryl’s husband. I did call Nicola Roberts ugly but that was at the beginning of my career. I couldn’t remember her name so I said ‘the ugly one in Girls Aloud‘. I don’t think she’s ugly at all.”
“On the whole, I am really supportive of other female artists. I just think that people should get on with each other.”
“If she comes out and slags me off again I’m not going to retaliate. I haven’t got time…”
Do you think Katie Price's marriage to Alex Reid will last?
