Recent split-ees Jessica Simpson and John Mayer reportedly spent Sunday night together in Jessica’s New York hotel room after a relationship-healing dinner date.

Rumours that the pair had gone their separate ways started circulating last week and fuel was added the the break-up fire when Jessica refused to answer comments about their relationship during a promotional appearance in Cannes.

Jessica flew back from France to New York over the weekend and a source told People magazine the pair met up on Sunday: “They went on a date [on Sunday night]. They had a great time. They had dinner.”

“They’re in a normal relationship. This happens with relationships sometimes.”

Another source told Us Weekly the pair then headed back to Jessica’s room at the SoHo Grand hotel for further deliberations on the state of the union.

Another source close to the pair added that it’s hard to predict what will happen: “I don’t think they’re sure. All I know is that they like each other and saw each other. Everyone’s waiting to see what’s going to happen.”
