Johnny Depp has said he was shocked by the treatment ex-girlfriend Kate Moss received over her drug revelations in 2005.

He told the Daily Mail recently that he hated the nickname “Cocaine Kate” that she was given by the tabloids after she was photographed snorting the drug: “Dragging her through the mud like that - [the press] are weird and two-faced. Let her be!”

“I have never met Pete Doherty, but I think he has talent and he and Kate could be great together.”

“She’s got a great brain on her and she’s a good mummy.”

Johnny added that their relationship in the mid-1990s wasn’t as legendary as the rumours suggested it was - he denies the story that the couple once shared a bath filled with champagne in a London hotel: “I wish it was true.”

“I was not good for Kate. But she’s a strong girl and a great girl and very smart.”
