A friend of Lindsay Lohan’s has said the actress “likes” it in rehab - which is a probably good thing because her dad Michael Lohan has claimed that in addiction to the alcohol and cocaine abuse rumours, Lindsay is also addicted to prescription painkiller OxyContin.

Lindsay’s friend Nate Newell told People magazine on Wednesday evening that he had spoken to Lindsay during her first few days at Promises Treatment Center: “I’ve been in touch with her and she likes it. She’s happy where she is and is just taking time to herself to learn and be okay.”

“She’s so much in the public eye 24 hours a day that she’s gotten so caught up. I think she surrounds herself with good people generally, but all the pressure that she’s around has created this alternate universe in a way and it’s hard for her to stay grounded.”

He added that being shut away from the world at Promises will be better for her than her day-release rehab programme at Wonderland earlier this year: “She just needs to be away from everyone and not get attacked by the paparazzi.”

“She’s doing really, really well. She probably should be there and it will be the best for her. I think [now] she’s ready for it.”

Michael Lohan agrees that Lindsay’s rehab stay is for the best and while he’s estranged from his daughter, he’s said he’s been in touch with those treating her.

Michael, who is currently training to be a teen drugs counsellor after turning to religion while in jail following his own period of drug and alcohol abuse, told E recently: “I spoke to the people treating Lindsay, because I wanted to make sure she was getting the right care.”

“I’m satisfied they are doing the right thing for her, helping her detox from the painkillers and things. That’s a very important step.”

“And I learned they use the 12-step program which includes a lot of lessons based on God’s teachings, so I was satisfied with that. First she needs to get clean, then she needs to let God into her life.”
