Paris Hilton starts her jail sentence
Paris Hilton surrendered herself to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s authority last night after attending the MTV Movie Awards.
She was collected by a car from her parents’ house in Beverly Hills around 10.30pm and accompanied by mum Kathy Hilton, she taken to the Men’s Central Jail where she formally surrendered herself. Paris was then taken onto Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California where she will carry out her sentence.
Paris was thought to be planning to surrender herself at Lynwood this morning but the Sheriff’s office advised her to make the move last night to avoid a potential dangerous situation with the paparazzi and other media outlets vying for pictures.
Her attorney Richard Hutton released a statement confirming Paris’ surrender: “Paris Hilton has turned herself in to begin serving her sentence for violating probation at a Los Angeles County Jail located in Lynwood, California.”
In her own statement, the heiress added: “I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. During the past few weeks, I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes.”
“This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence.”
Earlier in the evening, Paris attended the MTV Movie Awards and told MTV pre-show host SuChin Pak: “I’m doing okay, obviously a little scared right now. I’m scared but I’m being strong and I’m ready to face my sentence and I hope this can be an example to other young people.”
Paris is expected to serve at least 23 days of her 45 day sentence at the prison and although authorities had found a suitable cellmate for her, Capt Alice Scott who oversees the facility has now said: “In all likelihood, she won’t have a cellmate. We’ve got enough space in there right now.”
The socialite will spend 23 hours a day - and eat all her meals - in the cell, with just one hour a day spent outside the cell for recreation, showering and using the phone.

Unfortunately we live in a society which has a need to survive of off the consumption of the spirits and souls of others. This young woman is simply fodder. Her efforts to distinguish herself as a “purposed” human being only served to heighten society’s desire to devour her. What a shame.
