Paris Hilton was released from jail around 2am this morning (LA time) just three days after she started her sentence on Sunday night.

Paris was initially sentenced to serve 45 days in the county jail but was only expected to serve 23 days under a good behaviour programme. She will spend the remainder of her full sentence under house arrest at her West Hollywood home and has been fitted with an ankle bracelet for the duration.

LA County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore has said Paris was released because of “medical reasons” but refused to divulge the nature of the condition, for “privacy reasons”.

Whitmore added that she has not been freed, she has just been “reassigned” from the jail and when her time under house arrest is finished, she will have “fulfilled her debt to society”.
