George Michael banned from driving and given community service
George Michael has been banned from driving for two years and given 100 hours of community service following his driving-while-unfit arrest last year.
George appeared in front of Judge Katherine Marshall at Brent Magistrates Court earlier today for sentencing after pleading guilty to the charge last month.
George told the court: “I was ashamed I had done something really wrong in putting other people at risk.”
Through his solicitor, he accepted the sentence of community service “if appropriate and not in the public eye”, such as “to make a positive contribution, ie working in youth clubs or with people trying to forge a career in music”.
Earlier tests showed George had a therapeutic quantity of prescription anti-depressants in his blood as well as illegal drugs GHB and cannabis - but his defence counsel argued that GHB could be present in blood without any illegal substances being taken.
In a statement to the press on leaving court, he said that he was “glad to put this behind me” as he prepared for the “biggest show of my life” at Wembley Stadium this weekend.
