Paris Hilton has been sent back to jail after the judge overseeing her case deemed her reassignment to be contrary to his original sentence.

After being “reassigned” to house arrest from Century Regional Detention Center in the early hours of Thursday morning, Paris was ordered to attend a hearing with the sentencing judge, Judge Michael Sauer, earlier today.

At one point a court official claimed that she was allowed to “attend” over the phone but Judge Sauer ordered Paris to appear in court in person, sending a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s car to collect her from her Beverly Hills home. Paris was escorted to the car in handcuffs for the half-hour drive to the courthouse and was seen crying in the back seat of the vehicle as it left her property.

The Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo claimed yesterday that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which approved the reassignment, didn’t have the legal jurisdiction to change the sentence. In court today, the prosecutor, Dan Jeffries, said in making the reassignment Sheriff Lee Baca is “assuming all three roles of the criminal justice system … he is interpreting the law all by himself.”

The judge also added that he didn’t think the “medical reasons” cited as reason for her to be moved onto house arrest were sufficient cause for her reassignment since the jail at Lynnwood has “a great medical facility”.

According to witnesses, Paris had to be physically escorted from the court by a female official while screaming “Mom, Mom, Mom”.

On her reassignment yesterday, Paris issued a statement through her lawyer Richard A Hutton saying: “I want to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and staff of the Century Regional Detention Center for treating me fairly and professionally. I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence. I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes.”
