Melanie Chisholm further fuels Spice Girl reunion rumours
Despite her various reservations, Melanie Chisholm has said it’s looking more likely than ever that the Spice Girls are going to launch a comeback at some point in the near future - but even if they do, it won’t be a full scale affair.
She told BBC London 94.9 recently: “For the first time ever, there is some truth in the rumours. We’ve been discussing it and it could possibly happen.”
“I’ve always said, ‘I don’t want to do it, the past is the past. It was amazing, it was magical. We could never recreate it.’ But this year people have been talking about it and some of the girls have expressed an interest in doing it.”
“There is just so much great feeling out there and I just thought, you know what, I don’t want to be the person that stops it happening or stops it being a five-piece.”
“If the Spice Girls were to get back together it would be for a very short space of time. It would be a final goodbye and a thank you to all the fans all over the world.”
Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton have reportedly already been working on vocal tracks for a song which the band are reportedly hoping to release in a bid for the 2007 Christmas number 1.
A source told the People newspaper that the song is a reworking of an unreleased track from 1999 called ‘Woman’: “It is a very catchy pop tune so they thought it would be great to use it now. But they have updated it, with Geri adding her vocals.”
The source added that the group is considering re-releasing SpiceWorld: The Movie in October, followed by a greatest hits album in early November, the single in December and a six date tour next spring: “All the plans are in place. They’re just finalising details.”
