Hilary Duff has revealed she was surprised to see ex-boyfriend Joel Madden launch himself into the Hollywood clubbing scene as soon as he started dating Nicole Richie.

Hilary told Seventeen magazine recently: “All of the going out he did after we broke up sort of shocked me. Like, that’s just so out of character for him, and when we were together, he hated stuff like that, so I felt like I didn’t really know him as well as I thought I did.”

Joel and Nicole started dating just weeks after the Good Charlotte star split up from Hilary and are now rumoured to be engaged and expecting a baby together.

Hilary, who herself is no stranger to the partying world these days, added that she’s like to go down that path sometime too: “I still want the cookie-cutter American dream - to get married, have kids, and have a house with a picket fence. I still believe that marriage can work.”
