Tara Palmer-Tomkinson has said she thinks it’s great that Kate Moss is distancing herself from Pete Doherty - because that’s what Tara had to do to Kate in order to get over her own cocaine addition.

Socialite Tara went through rehab in Arizona in 1999 - before which she had been part of Kate Moss’s inner circle.

She told the Sun recently: “Kate - I love her. I have always been friends with her. But I had to back off from that scene a long time ago.”

“If I was going to get better I had to stay away from Kate and that group. I had to stay away from drugs and partying but if I saw her now I’d say hi.”

Regarding Kate and Pete, she said: “I think Kate has definitely done the right thing getting away from Pete. She had to. You have to make a decision and sacrifice certain things and certain people in your life in order to not be that person.”

But she’s not without sympathy for Pete: “I feel really sorry for Pete. He seems to want to get well but he just can’t follow it through.”
