While many A-level students would be delighted at the prospect of a parent-free week in a cheap B&B in Blackpool or Malaga, Harry Potter star Emma Watson whisked away her boyfriend of nearly a year on a luxury holiday in the south of France instead.

Seventeen year old Emma is said to have met upcoming rugby star Tom last autumn but has tried to keep their relationship private.

However, the owner of the Castel Plage restaurant in Nice’s old town described them as looking very much in love during their meal this week. Ali Abdelhafidh told the Daily Mail: “They arrived quietly at about 7.30pm and drank champagne and ate lobsters all night. They were clearly loving each other’s company and said they were in a very romantic place, with the Mediterranean just in front of them and great music.”

“They said they were having a wonderful holiday and did not leave until well after 2am. It was great to see a young couple so much in love but Emma had time for everyone else, too.”

Emma is said to have told restaurant staff the couple were enjoying the nightlife in Cannes and St Tropez along the coast, having a “wonderful time”, glad to be away from the “Harry Potter madness back home”.

The couple are staying at the Chateau de la Chevre d’Or in Eze, between Nice and Monaco, where sea view suits cost around £385 a night, and staff at the hotel described the pair as “delightful guests”.

However Tom’s dad told the newspaper that people shouldn’t read too much into the candlelit dinners, champagne and lobsters because the pair are both so young: “They are just friends - don’t read anything more into it than that. My wife and I have met Emma once or twice. She is a lovely young lady.”
