Lily Allen’s US visa revoked over assault arrest
Lily Allen has had her US visa cancelled after being held at Los Angeles International Airport over the weekend.
Lily was challenged by US customs and immigration officers on her arrival at LAX on Sunday night and was questioned for five hours. She was reportedly locked in a cell and strip searched while her lawyers discussed the situation with officials.
Lily’s recent arrest for allegedly attacking a photographer in March is believed to have sparked the final decision by the airport authorities but Lily was told a similar incident happened on her arrival in the country in May “because I am a musician”.
Lily had flown into the US from Australia for today’s MTV VMA nomination party and to film a music video with Kanye West - but the decision also jeopardises her tour dates in the country next month.
She said yesterday: “It is my intention to play my American dates in September.”
“This depends on the authorities granting me a new work visa.”
“I want my fans to know that I will do everything I can to be back in America in September. I don’t like letting my fans down and this is a situation that I am sure we can sort.”
