Isla Fisher has revealed fiance Sacha Baron Cohen inspired her to seek out roles in comedy films after she got disheartened competing for dramas.

She told Details magazine recently that she landed the role of Gloria in Wedding Crashers after Sacha told her, “Why don’t you go funny?” but it hasn’t been easy going: “The reality is, for women in comedy, there aren’t many opportunities to be the funny one. There aren’t scripts written. If you want to be challenged and do the work you want, you have to create the material yourself.”

“I’ve played some pretty wackadoodle people. I really hope that I’m not channeling any subconscious ideas about myself.”

She added that she loves Sacha’s brand of comedy but it was a worry while he was out on the road filming Borat: “Instead of ‘Hey, Honey, did you pick up the dry cleaning?’, it was ‘Did you get beaten up? Are you getting sued? Is there a warrant out for your arrest?’”
