Amy Winehouse’s mum: I don’t think she knew she was marrying Blake
Amy Winehouse’s mum Janis has said she’s not sure that Amy knew what she was doing when she married husband Blake Fielder-Civil earlier this year.
Amy and Blake married in a private civil ceremony in Miami in May, without any friends or family present to watch the nuptials. Their post-vow celebrations are said to have consistent of a burger breakfast and a three day lock-in at their hotel. Afterwards they pledged to have a blessing in London later in the year for their parents but Janis is worried that the damage has already been done.
She told the Mail on Sunday: “My feeling is, she wasn’t aware of getting married. I think they were probably both so out of it that when he said, ‘Let’s do it’, she said, ‘OK, then.’”
“The day before, she told a friend she was going to get married and the friend was really worried because there was no pre-nup, nothing. She also called her father and he begged her not to do it.”
“She called me the day after it happened and said, ‘We got married.’ Luckily I was prepared because [Amy’s dad] Mitch had warned me this might happen.”
“I said, ‘Why now?’ She just replied, ‘Well, the register office wasn’t open the next day.’ I wasn’t surprised. That’s Amy. I’ve learned now not to expect too much.”
Blake is often accused of being a bad influence in Amy’s life, with stories circulating that he used to deal drugs and has encouraged Amy’s partying behaviour, but Janis refused to be drawn on the topic of her son-in-law, saying: “I think it’s a case of the less said the better.”
