Nicole Richie serves 82 minutes in jail before being freed

Nicole Richie served just 82 minutes of her four-day jail sentences yesterday before being released by officials.

Accompanied by her lawyer and fiance Joel Madden, Nicole submitted herself to Century Regional Detention Facility at Lynwood, California at 3.15pm local time yesterday. She had a mugshot taken and was listed as 5′1 tall and weighing 105lbs.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that she was “cooperative” and was processed in the normal way. Shew was then taken to a cell for 23 minutes, before being released again at 4.37pm.

The spokesperson added that Nicole was “treated in the same manner as other inmates with a similar sentence … Her release was based on her sentence and Federal Court guidelines and inmate population. Because of overcrowding, she was released early.”

Nicole was sentenced to the jail time at a hearing last month following her arrest for a DUI in December. As it was Nicole’s second DUI offence (the first taking place in 2003), she was sentenced to a minumum of four days jail time. She will remain on probation for the next three years and if she violates that, she will serve a minimum of a year in jail.
