The Spice Girls‘ reunion tour sounds to be in turmoil amidst rumours that both Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell are feeling the pressure of the comeback.

The band are set to reunite for a the 14-date tour in December and January but according to the People newspaper, Mel C is on the verge of pulling out in favour of pursuing her solo career.

A source told the newspaper: “Mel C still wants to be seen as a solo singer and she’s told pals she’s tired of being ordered around.”

“Things are so tense she hasn’t even spoken to Mel B, Victoria, or Geri since June.”

Mel is set to release a new solo single (’This Time’) in October this year ahead of the girl group’s greatest hits and new single in November. The source added: “It’s an obvious sign of where her priorities lie because she’ll need to promote her own single and have less time for the group. Management are treating her feelings like gold-dust to salvage things. But they are also planning to make sure the tour goes ahead even if she pulls out.”

As for Geri, friends of the star are worried that the reunion is prompting her to slip back into old ways when it comes to not eating and over-exercising. A source told the Mirror: “She’s incredibly compulsive. The Spice Girls‘ reunion is a huge deal for her and she wants to look her very best for her moment back in the limelight.”

“The problem is, Geri is a woman of extremes and she doesn’t always know when to stop.”

“We mustn’t forget that ego plays a major part in all this. Geri loves [Victoria Beckham], but she also envies her figure and Victoria is looking fabulous at the moment. Geri is always very determined to work on her figure when she knows she’s got something to promote and this is her biggest career move in recent years.”

“That old friendly rivalry with Victoria could well be in full swing again. That’s what worries her friends the most.”

“The other girls are all a bit worried about Geri’s behaviour. She’s always been one to take things to extremes and the way she’s dealing with her pre-tour fitness regime is another example of her obsessive personality.

“She’s on the cusp - she looks good now but if she takes it any further, she’s going to start to look ill.”
