Amy Winehouse’s parents and in-laws bicker over blame
Amy Winehouse’s dad Mitch has accused her husband Blake Fielder-Civil’s parents as being part of the problem surrounding the troubled couple.
Amy and Blake are currently holidaying in St Lucia following Amy’s collapse earlier in the month and their repeated short stays at rehab. However, even though the pair are out of the country, the various parents are still fighting over what is best for them.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live yesterday, Georgette and Giles Civil expressed their concern for the couple’s future, saying: “I think they both need to get medical help, before one of them, if not both of them, eventually die.”
“We are concerned that if one of them dies, the other will die. They are a very close couple, and if one dies through substance abuse, the other may commit suicide.”
“They are living in a world where access to drugs is easy, they have plenty of money available and what they need, what they want, they can have without question.”
“They are going through abject denial at the moment. They don’t see themselves as having a problem and are quite aggressive in defence of themselves. They believe they are recreational users of drugs but it seems to us this is not the case and clearly they are addicts.”
“We urge Amy’s fans to send a message to her that her addiction is not acceptable. I would not want any harm to come to Amy and Blake but perhaps it is time to stop buying her records. We should not be condoning her addiction by awarding her [either record sales or industry awards].”
However, Amy’s dad Mitch then phoned in to counter their comments: “It is a horrible situation. Our family and Blake’s family are living through hell. But the facts are simple. The day after Amy and Blake came out of the facility, we had a meeting in Chelsea with the directors and the two GPs looking after them. Giles and Georgette were due to come. Instead, they chose to go to the pub with Amy and Blake.”
“This is the problem that we find ourselves up against. We have two families pulling in different directions. Both of us want the same thing. We want our children to be safe. But we have different definitions of how we can do that.”
“Had they also been in that meeting, some of the accusations they have made about the record company…they would have seen caring, loving people. Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it - people who have been working for 30 years on matters like these, crying their eyes out because of their love for Amy.”
Mitch added that he had spoken to Amy and she “sounded fine. We’re not talking about people who are in imminent danger of death. Physically, she’s not fantastic, but while she was away, I think the eating disorder was worked on, and she put on a stone. In the space of eight days, that’s pretty good.”
“It’s no good blaming anyone and saying in the last four months, Blake’s got worse because of Amy and she’s got worse because of Blake. In the last four months, they have got worse.”
“They are a married couple, they love each other, although there are issues if they feel they’ve got to cut themselves to show it. If it means they get cured together, I hope they get cured together.
“If it means that they get cured by being separated, then so be it. But nobody can physically separate them. Blake’s parents can’t take him back to Nottingham if he doesn’t want to go and I can’t force Amy to do anything. I’ve tried. It does not work.
“The doctors said, ‘You’ve tried the screaming and shouting, it doesn’t work. We’ve got to try gentle persuasion, let them feel they’re making the decisions’. Guess what, that hasn’t worked either.”

if you think someone writing this article or reading it is wasting their time on this issue when there is more important ones, then why are YOU wasting YOUR time reading it for a start, and then bothering to spend your time writing a comment about it?
