Madonna and Guy Ritchie has reportedly vowed to put aside their differences over the next few weeks to present a united front while a Malawi government official visits their home.

Social worker Penistone Kilembe will spend two weeks conducting a “home-stidy” with the family at their London home from Tuesday to assess their suitability to be parents to their adopted son, David. Kilembe’s report is the final step of the adoption process - and could result in David being returned to his orphanage in Malawi if the verdict goes against the singer.

A source close to the family told the News of the World: “[Madonna and Guy] are on tenterhooks waiting for this man to arrive in the UK.”

“Things haven’t been great in their marriage recently but they’re determined to put on a good show for him. To send David back would be devastating and it’s something they’re determined to avoid at all costs.”

“They’re determined to come across as a perfect little family unit and also show that they’ve got enough money to buy David every last thing he could ever need.”

As well as assessing the family environment including interactions with their existing children Lourdes and Rocco, Kilembe will ask the couple about their use of alcohol & drugs, any infidelity in their relationship and Madonna’s previous divorce.

He has said of his task: “I just want to make sure the child is happy and with a good family. I have met both Madonna and Guy Ritchie and they seem like nice people.”
