Alicia Keys has revealed her sudden celebrity make it hard for her to keep her feet on the ground and it took the death of a friend to bring her back down to earth.

Alicia’s debut album ‘Songs in A Minor’ sold 50,000 records on its first day of release in 2001 and has sold more than 11million copies worldwide, instantly transforming her into a best-selling R&B star. As well as releasing further albums, Alicia starred in Smokin’ Aces and new release The Nannies Diaries.

She told Rolling Stone recently that everything got a bit too much for her: “Every time I’d wake up, I’d get dressed and put on my little facade, like, ‘Everything’s great. I’ve got these shows going on, I just finished this film.’”

“[I would repeat] all these interview answers to the point where I’d give interview answers to my family.”

“Maybe God knew I needed an extreme situation to help me understand what’s real.”
