Sugababes star Amelle Berrabah has said she is “thrilled” that the rape charges against boyfriend Freddie Fuller have been dropped.

Freddie was amongst a group of men charged with a sex attack on Amelle’s younger sister Samiya.

A spokesperson for Surrey police confirmed on Thursday that the case will not go to court due to a lack of evidence and that all the men involved “were brought into the station on a number of occasions to be questioned and bailed each time.”

“They were last questioned on Sunday, at which point they were all released without charge.”

Speaking to the Mirror about the news, Amelle said: “Yes, I’m thrilled. There have been a lot of lies made up about that and he needs an apology.

“His name should not have been mentioned in that context. We are very happy together.”

A source close to Amelle’s family added: “Amelle has been caught between Freddie and her sister and it’s been a terrible time for her.”

“The case never went to court and I think there’s been a lot of confusion and Freddie’s name had been blackened. [Now] Freddie has been released without charge and we hope he and Amelle will be really happy together.”

A spokesperson for the girlband also had further good news for Amelle - despite rumours of secret auditions to find a replacement, she isn’t being dumped from the group after all: “Contrary to speculation Amelle Berrabah is not leaving Sugababes.”
