Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and his father-in-love Joe Simpson joined forces to protect Ashlee Simpson as a tussle broke out after a post-VMAs party in Las Vegas on Sunday.

According to the New York Daily News, the Simpsons and Pete were trying to leave the Decaydance/GQ party at the Jet nightclub in the Mirage Hotel when the club’s security blocked the path of the rest of their entourage. Pete then demanded that the entire group be escorted to a waiting SUV and when tempers flared, Ashlee got pushed into a wall.

According to onlookers, Pete yelled “what are you doing?” at the bouncers then lashed out, punching the doormen, and Joe Simpson joined in the fight after drawing a finger across his throat, saying: “When somebody messes with my baby, then it’s over!”

The fight broke up without any serious injuries and the group were allowed to leave, with Pete spitting at the wall of the club, vowing never to return.

Joe, who manages both Ashlee and older daughter Jessica Simpson, later said the security staff were “just mad they make $12 an hour.”
