Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara Jolie-Pitt is reportedly facing painful surgery after the couple found out she is suffering from hip dysplasia.

The genetic condition, where the thigh bone is improperly connected to the hip, can cause pain, affect movement and cause damage the spine as the sufferer attempts to compenstate for the condition. The problem arises in around 1 in 1000 children and is more likely to affect girls than boys.

According to sources close to the family: “Brad and Angelina have talked with their paediatrician, who told them Zahara may need to have surgery.”

“[The alternative is] she may need to wear braces to help her legs and hips return to normal positioning.”

“They’ll do whatever it takes to see that she’s a happy, healthy child.”

Zahara spent a week in hospital after she was adopted by Angelina in 2005 to be treated for dehydration and malnutrition.
