Amy Winehouse’s mum has said she finds it hard to see her daughter nowadays because drugs have transformed Amy into someone she doesn’t recognise - and there is nothing she can do about it.

In an interview with First magazine, Janis Winehouse said: “Amy is playing Russian roulette with her health and musical gift.”

“She’s lost herself. We’re not talking about my Amy. It’s not someone I recognise. She has become her own stage creation.”

“I knew she was smoking marijuana but not that she was doing class A drugs until she collapsed. She won’t stop until she sees the point of stopping… when I saw her afterwards, I did not tell her to clean up, there was no point.”

“I know all about class A drugs. I understand the process where the brain shuts out everything except the drugs. Talking to her about it won’t make any difference.”

But another source close to Amy - her friend and hairdresser Alex Foden - insists that drugs aren’t the real problem with Amy at the moment.

Alex told Closer magazine: “They’ve been rowing a lot over the bulimia - not the drugs.”

Amy has previously admitted suffering from eating disorders in the past and Alex insists that while Amy may be indulging in drugs at the moment, they’re just a phase while the bulimia is a much more long term problem.

“When Amy shot to fame she was a size 10 and people called her fat. Celebs say they don’t read their own press, but they do.”

“She’s managed to put on a little bit of weight recently but it’s an ongoing battle.”

In support of Amy’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Alex added: “Blake’s been getting the blame for everything, which isn’t fair because he did all he could to keep her in rehab.”
