Keira Knightley: I don’t want fame, I just want to act
Keira Knightley has reiterated her dislike of being a celebrity, she just wants to be an actress.
She told the Mirror recently: “I’m not comfortable being photographed when I’m being myself.”
“I believe the Aborigines say that every photo takes away a bit of your soul. It’s very odd but I think there’s some truth in that.”
She admits that aside from the privacy issues, part of her dislike of the paparazzi is because she knows she’s not perfect: “I look in the mirror and go, ‘Oh no! More spots, more acne!’”
“I don’t like people who tell me I look crap. I think kindness is a good quality, and that doesn’t always mean honesty.”
She added: “I’ve always wanted to be successful and I’ve always been passionate about films and acting. I want to be as good as I can possibly be in films that are as good as they can possibly be. It won’t always happen but that’s what I want. So, yes, I’ve always wanted success.”
“But fame is something very different. I could definitely say that if I could possibly be an actress with the career that I’ve got but be completely anonymous, I’d choose that.”
“I can’t imagine ever doing another [big Hollywood blockbuster]. I had five months off from Pirates of the Caribbean during the summer last year, when I made [new films] Silk and Atonement, and it was so great - I want to be able to explore emotions in smaller projects.”
“That’s not to say I won’t suddenly read a big Hollywood blockbuster and go ‘oooh, that might be good…’ But I haven’t yet.”
“I love my job. There are downsides but as long as I love making films then the downsides are worth it. If the time comes when I don’t love making films then the downsides won’t be worth it and I’ll stop and do something else.”
