Britney Spears charged with hit-and-run after crash last month
Britney Spears has been charged with a hit-and-run and driving without a valid license following a minor car crash last month.
Britney clipped the car as she was parking her Mercedes on 6th August. The whole incident was captured for posterity by photographers but Britney herself didn’t report it. Instead, the car’s owner filed a report at a North Hollywood police station, causing the Los Angeles City Attorney to make the misdemanor hit-and-run causing property damage charge.
City Attorney office spokesperson Frank Mateljan added that the second charge is resulted because Britney does not have a Californian state driving license: “According to the DMV, Ms Spears was never issued a California license – ever.”
Californian residents must get a state driving license within ten days of moving to the area but her legal team could argue that Britney still considers herself a resident of Louisiana as she has a property there, hence the Louisiana license.
The arraignment will take place in Van Nuys on 10th October and if found guilty on both counts, Britney could face a year in jail but is much more likely to be given a fine and probation instead.
