Charlotte Church on giving birth to daughter Ruby

Charlotte Church has revealed she went into labour in the car park of a DIY store.

Charlotte gave birth to daughter Ruby Megan Henson at her home just outside Cardiff late last month and told OK magazine recently that if she’d been a bit quicker about it, Ruby could have made her entrance at B&Q.

Boyfriend Gavin Henson had gone into the shop and to buy some supplies: “[And] he’d accidentally locked me in the car and the alarm was going off, so people were coming out of B&Q hearing the alarm and looking at the car, and then seeing it’s Charlotte Church in there!”

“I was just trying to hide but couldn’t - just sitting there having contractions!”

“I wanted to go for a meal in the Toby Carvery [on the way home] but the contractions were every five minutes so we came back.”

The couple install a birthing pool in their home for the delivery and passed the time during the labour by watching the Rugby World Cup: “[But I] was on gas and air by that point so I wasn’t really concentrating”.

She added that Ruby has “Gavin’s bum chin and his feet” and she’s surprised by how strongly she already feels about the two week old baby girl: “I’m really shocked by how I feel. It’s just massive amounts of love towards her. And it’s like she’s always been here.”

And plans to concentrate on her new daughter instead of rushing to lose her pregnancy weight: “I think it’s sad when people get obsessed with all of that. I’m pretty happy with the way I am and I bagged Gavin so I can’t be doing that badly, can I?”
