Britney Spears gets overnight visit with sons despite disrespecting judge
Britney Spears has been granted one overnight visit with her sons a week after appearing in court yesterday - but the judge overseeing the case is said to be less impressed with the star than ever.
Britney was expected to attend the emergency hearing - called for by her legal team - at the Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday morning but didn’t arrive because she overslept. Court Commissioner Scott Gordon briefly met with both legal teams before sending them away to “work it out”.
Britney then arrived at the courthouse in the afternoon for a private meeting with Commissioner Gordon but while court spokesperson Allan Parachini says she was “respectful” to the judge, other sources have claimed the opposite.
An inside source told TMZ that during their 40 minute meeting, Britney constantly interrupted Commissioner Gordon and was, at times, extremely sarcastic, including when she thanks the judge for his participation in the case so far. Gordon then explained to the star why she had lost custody of the boys and his concerns about their welfare in her care but she was “contentious, argumentative and condescending”.
The single overnight stay is said to be a compromise between the two legal teams, with Britney wanting more time with sons Sean & Jayden and Kevin Federline’s legal team wanting to restrict her to just daytime visits. The overnight stay will be monitored as with the other visits but the parties could not reach an agreement on choosing a different supervisor after tensions with the person already in place.
Commissioner Gordon agreed to the visitation after acknowledging it was “important” for the two young boys to spend time with their mother: “But at the same time this is a person who is dealing with challenges. And the challenges are substance abuse issues and emotional issues that could have devastating effects on the children.”
After initially protesting the arrangement, Kevin’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan explained that he was satisfied with the visitation amendment: “Kevin has always been willing to jointly parent these children. He felt confident that the conditions [on Britney] satisfied his concerns. Kevin agreed that he would allow additional time to be expanded into the order, provided that the kids [are] protected.”
