Melanie Brown has said her years in the Spice Girls didn’t prepare her for her current role on Dancing with the Stars because the girl group’s routines were so basic in comparison.

Mel, who has performed a Cha-Cha, Quickstep and Jive with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy on the celebrity talent show so far this season, told Ellen DeGeneres recently that the show’s dances are far more complex that what she’s used to: “the Spice Girls were like routines for 6-year-olds. Everyone can do it!”

She added that she has been pleasantly surprised by the reaction to the Spice Girls‘ reunion tour plans. The group initially announced just 14 shows in December and January but after millions of fans registered an interest in attending, they’ve upped that number to 34, with 17 shows in London alone.

Mel told Ellen: “I was really shocked and thought ‘Wow! We really have to do it now. But I’m very excited.”

And she was particularly surprised that the initial London gigs sold out in just 38 seconds: “I was amazed. I did actually think ‘how is that possible? Is there a lot of people on the phone in one big room?’ I don’t get it.”
