New Anna Nicole Smith death investigation launched
Eight months after her death, a new investigation into the death of Anna Nicole Smith has been launched in California.
The state’s Attorney General Jerry Brown confirmed the news after the late celebrity’s former doctors were served with search warrants at their homes and offices on Friday. Six locations were searched in total but Brown insists the raids are just the start of the new investigation.
Over 600 pills, mostly muscle relaxants, were found in Anna Nicole’s hotel suite in Florida on the day she died and the coroner in charge of the case in Florida announced in March an accidental drug overdose caused the former Playboy model’s untimely death.
However, the sources of the drugs - primarily Drs Khristine Eroshevich and Sandeep Kapoor - are under investigation. Attorney General Brown said: “The investigation started when I reviewed the fact that all these different dangerous drugs and controlled substances were part of the death of Anna Nicole Smith, and I learned that these were California doctors and California prescriptions.”
“To get a search warrant you need probable cause that a crime has been committed… If a judge issues a search warrant to go into somebody’s home there’s some serious evidence.”
“I’m not going to speculate on what the charges would be, but we do know… that there’s someone’s who’s dead and their body, upon investigation, is full of controlled substances and combinations of drugs that turned out to be illegal. We’re looking into a number of possible violations.”
