Melanie Chisholm: I didn’t know if the Spice Girls’ attitude would work now
Melanie Chisholm has revealed she was initially dubious about the Spice Girls reunion because she didn’t know how it would work now the former Girls have become women and mothers.
She told Cosmopolitan recently: “My concern was that we were always a bit raucous and shambolic, and maybe that’s quite charming when you’re in your twenties, but now we’re in our thirties can we get away with it?”
“We never knew until that press conference whether the chemistry was still there, but it was and it feels quite magical to be together.”
“It’s fun to see that nobody has really changed that much. But then again, that has its downside. We don’t have punch-ups anymore like we did when we were 22 - there would be a few too many drinks and we’d get over excited.”
But even though she thinks it’ll go well, she doesn’t see them doing it permanently like their contemporaries Take That: “For me, the tour is very much about nostalgia. It’s two months and then it’s over - bye-bye and thank you.”
