Britney Spears loses visits with son - but settles hit-and-run
Britney Spears had a busy day concerning legal matters yesterday - she settled her hit-and-run case but lost visitation access to her two sons.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon suspended the visitation sessions after an emergency meeting with Kevin Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan yesterday afternoon. She has lost access after failing to comply with the previous court-mandated criteria for first custody then visits with sons Sean and Jayden.
In Commissioner Gordon’s ruling at the start of the month Britney was ordered to submit to regular drug tests, acquire a valid driving license and attend counselling & parent coaching sessions - but according to reports, she failed to provide valid contact information which caused problems when administering the drugs tests.
A source close to the star explained that Britney first gave an invalid phone number (the number of her former rather than present assistant) then failed to take part in a required conference call because she couldn’t get mobile phone reception at her Malibu home.
A source close to her ex-husband Kevin though countered the claims, telling Us Weekly: “Blaming the cell phone is ridiculous. The judge called her in last Thursday specifically to spell out what she needed to do to see her kids, and she didn’t follow the rules outlined.”
“The judge could not have been more clear. I can only imagine that there are numerous ways to reach Britney - including a land line.”
Both parties and their legal teams are due in court again a week from today for the next scheduled hearing in the ongoing custody trial - but it’ll now be Britney’s only court date for the week.
Earlier in the week, Britney surrendered herself to police in Van Nuys to be formerly charged over her August car crash. She was charged with a hit-and-run causing property damage and driving without a valid license.
Britney’s legal team has now reached a civil settlement with the owner of the damaged car, Kim Robard-Rifkin, over the bump in a San Fernando Vally car park on 6th August. The popstar has agreed to pay around $1000 (plus car rental fees) in damages to Robard-Rifkin, making it likely that the hit-and-run charge will be dropped.
Her lawyer J Michael Flanagan added: “We’re also working on resolving the license issue.” The charge is likely to be reduced to a traffic infarction rather than a misdemeanor since Britney has now acquired a state of California driving license.
Britney is said to have topped off the busy Thursday with a visit to a Beverly Hills medical practise, with pictures suggesting she had collagen injected into her upper lip during the visit.
