Amy Winehouse’s dad has said he hopes his son-in-law is imprisoned over an assault charge because it’ll give Amy a chance to sort herself out.

Blake Fielder-Civil, who has been inseparable from the Back in Black star since they married in May, is due in court later this month to face GBH charges after being involved in a fight in a London pub.

Mitch Winehouse told the Mirror: “If Blake were to go to jail for GBH it would probably be the best thing that could happen for Amy. It would give her a chance to recover and we could get her into rehab.”

“She’s got a long way to go in her recovery. She knows she’s still got lots to sort out in her head. The trouble is, Blake seems to want them to go to rehab together and to be in control - and they’ve been told that isn’t a good idea and the likelihood of recovery is small.”

“If he were in jail for a few months I think Amy would have a better chance of recovering. She needs to get herself sorted before she worries about him.”

“She’d be mortified if he did go to jail, but it would be a real chance for her to get on the straight and narrow.”

In related news, Amy has confirmed she’ll appeal the £350 fine she received after admitting to cannabis possession charges in Norway last month.

Amy insists the cannabis did not belong to her and her Norweigan lawyer Oleg Kvelstad has said they will challenge “errors police made in the case”.

Amy’s forthcoming US tour is in jeopardy after she accepted the fine as the guilty plea contravenes US visa regulations. If the appeal is granted, the fine order will be revoked and the case may go to trial instead.
