Heather Mills: I asked Paul McCartney to protect me - but he didn’t

Heather Mills has said she begged Paul McCartney to protect her from the press when they separated but he has failed to do so.

Continuing her run of TV interviews starting with Wednesday’s GMTV appearance, Heather filmed a live satellite interview for the US’s Today Show yesterday morning.

She explained: “When we first split, I said to Paul, ‘I’m going to be crucified, I’m going to have a modern day stoning’. I said to Paul, ‘You know why we split, you know the truth. They don’t need to know the details, but you need to stand up and say, ‘I am responsible for the breakdown of this marriage’.'”

“‘You’ll be a hero because it’s always two parties, but in this case it’s very heavily one-sided’. I said, ‘If you say that, I’ll walk away with nothing and we’ll do a very gentle and quick divorce’. And he promised he’d do that, I have evidence of that and he did nothing.”

“I have pleaded, I have begged. He knows I was at a suicide point and still nothing has been done.”

Heather said that despite everything, she remained confident that the “truth will come out” because she “recorded every single conversation” the couple had about the divorce.

Heather played some of the tapes to a TV production company on Wednesday and an inside source who heard the excerpts told the Mail: “They are long rambling talks between Heather and Paul - she describes them as his therapy sessions. We got the highlights. She told us that he was definitely aware that he was being recorded.”

“Paul clearly loves to talk about himself, but he may be regretting that now.”

In a second US TV appearance yesterday, Heather told Extra that Paul’s daughter Stella McCartney was particularly vengeful towards her: “Every single week Stella tried to break up our marriage. She was so jealous.”

“Stella wasn’t interested in her dad’s happiness… she’s done some evil, evil things. She’s even scraped my face out of a photo.”
