Britney Spears misses 8 out of 14 drug tests
Britney Spears has missed eight out of 14 random drug tests ordered by the court as part of her ongoing custody trial.
Britney was ordered to submit to the twice weekly tests at the start of October but according to her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s lawyer Marck Vincent Kaplan, she has missed the majority of the sessions after failing to respond to the testing organisation’s phone calls.
Britney is supposed to respond to the calls within one hour then provide a urine sample for testing within six hours but even though Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon has reprimanded her on three occasions for not responding, Britney has failed to react.
Kaplan made the claims during a court hearing yesterday and said it was like the star was living in a “parallel universe”, unable to react with the real world. He added: “Mr Federline doesn’t want to take these children out of their mother’s life, but what are we to do?”
In return, Britney’s new lawyer Anne Kiley claimed that Britney misses the calls because she has to frequently change phone numbers to protect her privacy and that despite Gordon’s earlier assertion to the contrary, Kiley insists that a missed test does not indicate it would be a positive one.
Kiley also challenged the early morning requests, saying that stars like Britney are not usually awake at 8am. Gordon said he didn’t feel that time was “unreasonable” but Kiley replied: “You are not a pop star with a number one album, so you don’t know.”
“Just because Ms. Spears is unable to return a call within one hour doesn’t reflect what kind of mother she is. It’s a nonsensical procedure. She could be in a movie or travelling. What matters is that she provides a sample within six hours and that she tests negative.”
After failing to reach an agreement yesterday afternoon, the warring parties now have until Tuesday to come up with a compromise over the situation.
