Amy Winehouse’s husband transferred to medical unit for own safety
Amy Winehouse’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil was transferred to the prison hospital wing on his return to jail on Saturday ahead of the start of his assault trial today.
Blake was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice after allegedly conspiring to pay off the key witness in the trial. He was refused bail on Saturday and taken to Pentonville Prison in north London.
A family source told the Mirror that he was mobbed when he was first taken to the jail then sobbed uncontrollably for hours, causing staff to transfer him to the more relaxed medical unit “which is meant to help calm him down”.
A prison source added that even though Blake has a history of self-harming, he is not under suicide watch: “He is in the unit for his own safety. We want to keep an eye on him. It is also a precaution because he could experience trouble from fellow inmates.”
Blake is due at Snaresbrook Crown Court today on a GBH charge. A hearing has been set for later this month regarding the trial fixing charge.
UPDATE: Blake’s assault trial has now been postponed so that both the original GBH charge and the perverting the course of justice charge can be held at the same time. Both will now take place on 23rd November.
