Amy Winehouse booed by fans at first date on UK tour
Amy Winehouse was reportedly booed by fans at her first gig since husband Blake Fielder-Civil was arrested and sent to jail last week.
An audience member at the show in Birmingham told the Sun: “She came on stage half an hour late. She managed four songs but was slurring her words and swaying all over the place.”
“She fell into the guitar stand and dropped the microphone - it was atrocious.”
“The song she dedicated to her husband [’Wake Up’] was so bad it was like swinging a cat round your head.”
Angered fans are said to have started walking out when Amy told them they were “a mug” for buying a ticket if they weren’t enjoying it and warned them: “to all those booing, just wait ’til my husband gets out of incarceration. And I mean that.”
Amy’s spokesperson confirmed it was a difficult performance for the star: “It’s been a really emotional time for Amy but she was determined to do the gig.”
“She broke down on stage a couple of times with real tears. That real emotion is why people love her, but it’s just really heightened at the moment.”
Earlier in the day, Amy had visited Blake at Pentonville prison in London - the first time she has seen him since bail was refused at the weekend. He will remain in the jail until his assault and trial fixing hearings later in the month.
The Birmingham gig was the first night of Amy’s 17-date UK tour.
