Dennis Quaid and wife KimberlyDennis Quaid’s newborn baby twins have been admitted to a neo-natal intensive care unit after being given an accidental drug over dose.

Dennis and wife Kimberly welcomed their son Thomas Boone and daughter Zoe Grace into the world on 8th November and the babies were said to be doing well until they were accidentally given an overdose of anti-coagulant Heparin. The infants should have recieved a dose of weak Heparin, with the strength of 10 units to the millilitre but instead were given a more concentrated solution containing 10,000 units to the millilitre, causing them to start “bleeding out” on Sunday night.

A spokesperson for Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre has said there is “no excuse” for the error to have occurred, that it was “preventable” and resulted from “a failure to follow our standard policies and procedures.”

At least one other baby is believed to have been involved in the incident but the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Michael L Langberg has said that all the children are now stable after giving them protamine sulfate to counter the effects of the Heparin.

A spokesperson for the Quaids confirmed the news yesterday and added: “Dennis and Kimberly appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers and hope they can maintain their privacy during this difficult time.”
