Nicole Richie: I don’t know if I’m expecting a boy

Nicole Richie has said that despite the rumours pointing to blue, she doesn’t know if she’s expecting a baby boy or a baby girl.

Various gifts at her Wizard of Oz-themed baby shower earlier this month suggested she was expecting a boy but now she’s told Access Hollywood that she doesn’t know because the dad-to-be Joel Madden doesn’t want to know.

She explained: “I like to know everything. If he wasn’t at every doctor’s appointment, I probably would have found out by now just behind his back and not told him.”

She added that being pregnant has helped her repair her relationship with her parents - including her adoptive father Lionel Richie who she became estranged from in her late teens after he had an affair then he shunned her during her drug addiction: “When I found out that I was pregnant, there was just something inside of me that felt a responsibility to mend any issues that I’ve had with my parents in the past, because, listen, I’ve put them through a lot.”

She went on to say that Lionel doesn’t want to be called “grandpa” but is very much looking forward to the big day in the new year: “[The baby] is all he talks about, actually.”
