Amy Winehouse to be questioned in Blake’s trial fixing case
Amy Winehouse is reportedly set to be questioned by police over her involvement in husband Blake Fielder-Civil’s trial fixing case.
Blake was arrested last month and has since been held on remand after allegedly trying to pay off the key witness in a GBH charge, offering him £200,000 to flee the country. Police raided the home the couple shared in north London but Amy has not been involved in the case until now.
According to the News of the World, Amy will have to give fingerprint and DNA samples while been questioned under caution about the events - and could face up to life in prison if she is found guilty of conspiring to pervert the course of justice. If she does not willingly submit herself for the questioning, she could face a formal arrest and a further raid on her new home in Bow, east London.
A source close to Amy explained: “When police received their initial information the inquiry centred on Blake, his friend [fellow suspect Michael] Brown and the original victim in the case. But after seizing a number of documents, it seems there is forensic evidence that may tie Amy directly to the plot.”
“When you think about it, as soon as the figure of £200,000 emerged, the finger of suspicion started to point in her direction. How could Blake, who does precious little for a living, be expected to come up with that kind of money?”
“And the fact officers also visited the offices of her accountants - a respected firm who’ve handled Amy’s books for years and represent quite a few musicians - shows that they want to be able to show exactly where her money goes and to whom. They want to account for every penny.”
The case trial has been set for June but if charged and deemed to be a flight risk, Amy could be held on remand until then - something which worries her friends and family. The source added: “She’s incredibly fragile at the moment and there’s a good chance that this could finish her off. She’s convinced that jail will kill her.”
“She’s still battling crack and heroin and is just not strong enough to tackle prison life. She’s seen Blake in there over the past few weeks and knows she couldn’t cope with that.”
“The police know this too and they’re handling her as sensitively as they can. But there will come a point when she has to face the music like anyone else.”
A police source told the newspaper: “This is a very significant development in the investigation.”
