Britney Spears‘ younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears has said she’ll raise her unborn child in Louisiana “so it can have a normal family life.”

News broke last night that the 16 year old was expecting her first child with 19 year old boyfriend Casey Aldridge and Jamie Lynn told OK magazine that she was surprised when she found out she was pregnant after doing a home pregnancy test.

She told the magazine: “It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected. I was in complete and total shock and so was he.”

She then had the news confirmed by a doctor but: “as soon as I found out for sure, I took two weeks to myself where I didn’t tell anybody.”

“Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone’s opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me.”

Mum Lynne Spears added that she too was surprised at the news: “I didn’t believe it because Jamie Lynn’s always been so conscientious. She’s never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby.”

But possibly not as surprised as Aunt Britney: despite Jamie Lynn’s own confirmation, Britney denied the news when asked about it yesterday and a close source told People magazine: “This is going to kill her. In the end, she’ll be supportive, but right now this is a big shock.”

But Jamie Lynn, who is 12 weeks along, has accepted responsibility for the situation, saying she will definitely keep the baby: “I think my whole life I would have to live with knowing what I did or what I didn’t do.”

“I’m the one who has to live with it for the rest of my life. I put myself in this position, an adult position, so I have to act like an adult and take responsibility for what I did.”

“I can’t say it was something I was planning to do right now. But now that it’s in my lap and that it’s something I have to deal with, I’m looking forward to being the best mom I can be.”

The father-to-be’s family has supported Jamie Lynn’s decision with Casey’s mum Joyce Aldridge telling TMZ: “We are aware of the recent interview regarding her and being pregnant, and we are in agreement with everything that was said by Jamie Lynn about the situation … everything is fine.”
