NME Awards 2008: Alexa Chung throws up over boyfriend Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner

Alex TurnerIt seems like the NME Awards were a little too much for T4 presenter Alexa Chung yesterday: she reportedly ended up vomiting over triple-award winning boyfriend Alex Turner.

Alex’s band Arctic Monkeys picked up awards for Best British Band, Best Track and Best Video at the ceremony but it was all a bit too exciting for Alexa.

An onlooker told the Mirror: “Alex and Alexa were having a cheeky snog by the lifts shortly before he was due to go on stage.”

“It was all getting pretty heated when all of a sudden Alexa began to heave - and was suddenly violently sick.”

“After filming her show for T4 all day, it appears she’d developed a severe bout of food poisoning.”

“Alex was a knight in shining armour though. He insisted on accompanying her to the toilets and holding her hair back as she hurled into the loo.”

“It wasn’t the most romantic of occasions but Alexa looked extremely grateful for his gentle TLC.”

Vidoes: Kate Nash at the NME Awards 2008, and the Arctic Monkeys

Kate Nash picked up the Best Solo Artist award at the NME Awards yesterday - which is no mean feat given the usual boys-club nature of the event and magazine.

Here’s a(n admittedly somewhat wobbly) video of her performance of her hit ‘Pumpkin Soup’ at the ceremony:

The Arctic Monkeys were also big winners at the prize-giving, picking up the Best British Band, Best Track and Best Video awards. ‘Teddy Picker’ picked up the Best Video trophy but I prefer the surreal video of the Best Track’ winner, ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ so here that is instead :)

Amy Winehouse gets $500k for one-off fashion show gig

Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse is reportedly being paid £500,000 to play a single gig at Paris Fashion Week.

The singer, who is said to be reverting to her old ways after leaving rehab earlier in the month, is expected to fly to Paris today to perform at the Louis Vuitton show this weekend.

A source said: “Despite her troubles, Amy is being positioned as a modern day icon. People are copying her look and her music and the fashionistas want to make sure they’re keeping on top of the trend.”

Meanwhile back in London, Amy’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil appeared in court this morning at Snaresbrook Crown Court to plead not guilty in his ongoing perverting the course of justice case.

In November, Blake was charged with allegedly paying off the victim in his grevious bodily harm case, James King. Blake and his co-defendent James Kennedy are said to have agreed a deal with King to have him out of the country when the GBH charge came to court so that the case would be dismissed. Blake has been on remand at HMP Pentonville since his arrest and is now expected to remain there until at least the next pre-trial hearing on 25th April.

As well as entering his plea at this morning’s session, Blake’s legal team requested that the judge prevent the media reporting on details of the case ahead of the trial in June, specifically on whether the assault charge and perverting the course of justice case should be heard during the same trial or separate ones.

However presiding Judge Radford denied the request, saying: “Information relating to the two charges faced by Mr Fielder-Civil has already been widely publicised. I don’t see what is to be gained by preventing reporting of the debate over the format of the trial at this stage.

Boy George claims lawful reason for imprisonment of man

Boy GeorgeBoy George yesterday pleaded not guilty to falsely imprisoning a man in his East London flat, because he had a “lawful reason” for holding the man.

Audun Carlsen claims he was invited back to the former Culture Club singer’s flat in April last year to have some photographs taken but then was chained to a wall.

In a 20 minute hearing yesterday, George only spoke to confirm his name, give his not guilty plea then to say he understood the terms of this bail. His barrister Adrian Waterman explained that George’s not guilty plea was specifically about the “false” part of the charge and that George didn’t deny the imprisonment.

The trial has now been set for November.

Katie Price: don’t believe the lies, I love being a mum

Katie Price has denied the claims that she’s a bad mother and insists she can’t wait to expand her family further.

Earlier this month, Katie and husband Peter Andre’s former nanny Becky Gauld claimed the couple couldn’t be bothered caring for their three children and Katie particularly used to avoid spending time with her children.

However, Katie told OK magazine recently the claims are false: “I love everything about being a mother.”

“I can’t wait to have more kids. I want to wait until [youngest child] Princess is at nursery though so we can enjoy the three we have now.”

“I’d definitely think about adopting. We’ve even found a place over here where you can foster disabled kids. I want to go there on my day off and get one now.”

But that’s not to say it’s always easy managing life with eight months old Princess Tiaamii, two year old Junior and particularly five year old Harvey, who is almost entirely blind and suffers from developmental problems.

She explained: “[Harvey]’s a nightmare at the moment. His behaviour is terrible. Me and my friend went into town the other day and Harvey was fine until he got to the car park.”

“I tried to get him out of his wheelchair and he threw himself on the ground. There were me and my friend trying to lift an eight-stone child who was flipping like a fish, into the car.”

“His tantrums are getting worse I think because he’s bigger and stronger now. It always happens in public. I don’t really look at anyone else - I don’t really care. If they’re standing there staring, I’ll say: ‘What are you staring at? He’s not an animal in a cage.’”

“Pete always used to say I gave Harvey more attention, but that’s because he has special needs and I knew his routine quicker and better.”

“But now the attention is equal between all of them.”
