Rod Stewart with son AlastairRod Stewart and Penny Lancaster had to rush their son Alastair to hospital on Sunday morning after the two year old developed a dangerously high fever.

A source told the Mirror that that the couple panicked when Alastair’s temperature hit 102°F and without waiting for an ambulance, drove from their West Palm Beach, Florida home to nearby St Mary’s Hospital: “Alastair was burning up inside and Rod and Penny were very concerned.”

“They decided not to take any chances and rushed to hospital and were told to take him straight to the children’s emergency room. Like any parent, they were worried it could be something like meningitis.”

“Rod looked very worried and Penny appeared tearful.”

The little boy was examined for an hour and diagnosed with a chest and ear infection before being released home with antibiotics later in the day.

Penny herself added: “The hospital was very thorough and their quick diagnosis and response now has him comfortable and responding well to the antibiotics at home.”
