Eddie Murphy & Tracey EdmondsEddie Murphy has confirmed he has separated from wife of two weeks, Tracey Edmonds.

The couple married in a lavish spiritual ceremony in Bora Bora on 1st January and were expected to wed again to make the marriage legally binding on their return to the US. Instead, they have now released a statement staying they’d prefer to go back to being just friends.

The statement released yesterday explained: “After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further.”

“While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.”

Sources close to the couple claim that the marriage got off to a rocky start with “Eddie yelling at Tracey in front of people. He did it on a few occasions and it was very embarrassing.” Other sources claim disagreements over plans for the legal ceremony caused arguments and there was also a disagreement over Tracey’s insistence about keeping the surname Edmonds - which she started using when she married Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds in 1992 - because it is the same name that her young sons use.

Eddie and Tracey first got together in late 2006 and announced their engagement in July last year.
