Coleen McLoughlinColeen McLoughlin has said she hates the stereotype that all footballers’ wives are dumb - or that they’re any sort of homogeneous group.

Coleen left school at 16 to pursue her media career - but not before passing 11 GCSEs including an A* grade in Performing Arts - but she insists many of her contempararies have further and higher education qualifications and some have professional careers of their own.

She told the Mirror recently: “I think [footballers’ wives] are just an easy target. A lot of them have been to university and have degrees.”

“I can’t speak on behalf of them but the wives and girlfriends are all individuals - that’s why I don’t like the term WAG. Because we’re not a group of people that go around together all the time. We’re all individuals who happen to be footballers’ partners.”

Coleen is set to become a full-on footballers’ wife next year when she marries boyfriend Wayne Rooney after a five year relationship. She added: “I can’t wait. It’s the biggest day of your life.”

“I am still in the process of sorting it out. There’s a lot to do.”
