Heath LedgerA second private memorial service in honour of Heath Ledger took place in Los Angeles yesterday.

A week after the first event at the Beverly Hills Hotel, friends and co-stars of the late actor gathered yesterday to pay tribute to him at the Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City.

Guests included Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Sienna Miller, Ellen DeGeneres and I’m Not There director Todd Haynes as well as behind the scenes figures including those connected to the agency that represented Heath, CAA - but as with previous events, was closed to the public.

In related news, Heath’s former girlfriend - and the mother of his two year old daughter Matilda - Michelle Williams has broken her silence on the Brokeback Mountain star’s death.

In a statement released through her spokesperson on Friday, she said: “Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken.”

She added regarding their daughter: “I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day.”

“His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up in the best memories of him.”
