Britney Spears inseparable from Adnan Ghalib after hospital release
To the frustration of her parents, Britney Spears left hospital yesterday after a court representative found “no just cause” to hold her any longer.
Britney left UCLA Medical Center around noon yesterday after doctors released her from her 14 day mental evalution hold at 11:30am. The facility reportedly reached the decision to release her after she met with a “hearing referee”, a lawyer, who deemed that she was no longer a danger to herself or others after she had stablised and become cooperative following a week of treatment.
A private security detail escorted her from the hospital using a back door to avoid excessive fuss but within an hour, Britney was spotted driving around Beverly Hills with a bodyguard. After an hour of run-ins with the paparazzi, she then asked the bodyguard to leave the car and asked a photographer from the X17 photo agency to drive her to the Beverly Hills Hotel. Boyfling Adnan Ghalib was seen arriving at the hotel a short time later and after the pair spent some time together in her room, Britney was “secreted out” of the hotel in Adnan’s car for a meeting with her lawyer Adam Streisland before returning to the hotel in another paparazzo’s car.
Britney’s father Jamie Spears eventually arrived at the hotel holding what looked like legal documents and was taken to a private conference room. More police officers then arrived at the hotel, sparking rumours that they would launch an attempt to have Britney’s taken back to hospital but eventually, around midnight, Britney and Adnan left the hotel for Britney’s Studio City home, driven by another paparazzo. A source told TMZ that Jamie was more annoyed at Britney using photographers as drivers than about her release from hospital, which he could do very little about.
After her release, Jamie and Britney’s mum Lynne Spears issued a statement to CNN: “As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed this morning to learn that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital that could best care for her and keep her safe.”
“We are deeply concerned about our daughter’s safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk. There are conservatorship orders in place created to protect our daughter that are being blatantly disregarded. We ask only that the court’s orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted.”
Jamie and lawyer Andrew Wallet’s conservatorship of the star will remain in place until 14th February as previously agreed, meaning that while Britney has been freed from the hospital, her father and Wallet still have control over her estate.
In related news, Britney’s friend/advisor Sam Lufti has reportedly admitted giving the singer drugs before she was hospitalised last week.
He told Us Weekly he gave Britney “a handful of pills”, which help calm her down, before her parents arrived for the intervention: “I said these pills are working wonders, they are miracle pills.”
Speaking about Britney’s mental condition, he added: “In the depressive episodes, it’s all crying. But in the manic episode, there’s very little crying or sympathy or compassion. She becomes another person. She becomes somebody that just doesn’t care about anybody or anything.”
“The British accent is part of the mania. She’ll stick to the British accent because she becomes comfortable with it… But you know, when the pink wig comes on, it’s getting bad.”
Sam is currently under a restraining order preventing him from contacting Britney in anyway or going within 250 yards of her, her children, her homes or her car - but Sam has hired media consultant Michael Sands (who was previously the spokesperson for Kevin Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan) to publicly defend him.
Speaking yesterday, Sands called Lufti an “incredible American patriot” who just wants to help Britney through her troubles and “The documents that were filed [by Spears’ parents to support the request for the restraining order] are inaccurate and false, used to undermine Sam.”
OK magazine reports that someone claiming to represent Sam is attempting to make a deal for a tell-all story, even though he is said to have signed a confidentiality agreement with Britney.
However Sam himself is quoted in Rolling Stone as saying he’s actually been working with Britney on a tell-all book: “You know, this is so much more than a magazine article - we’ve been doing dictation, she’s been telling me her story, and I’ve been writing it all down. It would make a great book!”
