Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse will have to perform over a satellite link-up if she wants to appear on Sunday’s Grammy Awards after the US Embassy in London turned down her request for a visa.

Despite a two hour meeting with officials on Monday, Amy’s request for a visa was refused yesterday after her arrest for cannabis possession in Norway last year and reportedly failing drug tests administered by the embassy.

A spokesperson for the singer said yesterday: “Unfortunately, her application for a visa to enter the United States Of America has been rejected at this time by the American Embassy in London.”

“Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery.”

“Amy has been treated well and fairly by the Embassy staff and thanks everyone for their support in trying to make this happen. There will of course be other opportunities and she very much looks forward to visiting America in the near future.”

However a source close to the star told the Sun that the denial may be a big set-back in her efforts to get off drugs: “[The Grammys’ appearance] was her main incentive to get clean. It’s a blow.”

A second source told the Mirror: “Amy is devastated. She had been channelling all her energy into getting to LA.”

“She’s really down. We’re just hoping she pulls herself out of the disappointment and concentrates on her health.”
